Mia Amor Mottley was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, on 1 October 1965 into a family steeped in public service.

She studied at the United Nations International School and earned her law degree from the London School of Economics before returning home to forge a path marked by firsts: youngest minister, first female attorney-general, and, in 2018, the island’s first woman prime minister after a historic landslide.

She repeated the sweep in 2022 and, in 2021, led Barbados to become a republic.

Yet her true stage is global. At successive UN General Assemblies, most recently last week, she has spoken with piercing clarity on climate finance, Security Council reform, and reparations for slavery and colonialism. These are not abstract issues but matters of survival for small island states and tests of the world’s moral will.

Her speeches demand that knowledge become action. In an age of polycrisis, Mottley treats the podium as a place of accountability. Barbados may be small, but under her leadership its voice is impossible to ignore.

Ahead of the World Tourism Day celebrations in Mbale, H.E. President of Uganda @KagutaMuseveni toured the Mbale Wildlife Education Centre, where he applauded @ugwildlife for its continued efforts to conserve Uganda’s wildlife and bring conservation closer to the public.

Guided through the Centre’s semi-natural animal exhibits, the President was received by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Tom Butime, UWA Executive Director Dr. James Musinguzi, alongside other government leaders and local officials.

The President is now presiding over the #WTD2026 celebrations at Mbale Secondary School under the theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
