Today, Routes 24/29 and Kalighat–Ballygunge can be reopened , and reports suggest there are only around 22 tram drivers left. Reviving trams means recruiting and training new motormen, restoring infrastructure, modernising the fleet, and committing to long-term investment.

Kolkata's timeless tram heritage is set to make a comeback with a modern touch.

Under the proposed plan, RITES will develop a modern blueprint for the tram network, existing routes will be upgraded, and tram services are envisioned to connect two of Bengal's most iconic spiritual landmarks—Kalighat and Dakshineswar.

Preserving Kolkata's identity while embracing modern infrastructure-this is the vision for a city that moves forward without leaving its legacy behind.

🚨 URGENT REPAIRING WORK 🚨

For 2 years, Tram services on the Tollygunge–Ballygunge (Route 24/29) corridor have remained suspended due to damaged and uneven tracks near Mudiali Signal.

We urge @kmc to take immediate action and repair the tracks for resuming Tram services.

Encouraging to hear plans for a vehicle-free Boi Para and renewed attention to trams. College Street deserves a world-class public realm where books, pedestrians, cyclists, and modern trams coexist much like the great tram cities of Europe.
