I couldn't possibly be any more bullish on the creator economy right now:

> Oliver Darcy has 100K+ subscribers generating $1M+ in ARR shortly after leaving CNN

> CatGPT was working as a Chief of Staff a year ago… now she's a full-time creator with almost 1M followers

> a newsletter for magicians with 10k readers makes $70K a year through subscriptions (just one example of thousands of niche newsletters on @beehiiv)

> my own newsletter makes ~$400K a year as a side project

> everything at Cannes Lions (the panels, the events, the parties) was all centered around the creator economy

> box office hits are being led by and directed by YouTubers (on sub-million dollar budgets)

> studios are now casting creators in films, knowing they'll get the added distribution of those creators promoting on their channels

> Ramp, Rippling, Notion, Vanta, a16z, & Microsoft are all actively investing in storytelling and editorial roles

> CAA and TPG just launched a $250M fund purely to acquire creator led media businesses

& people are still only just waking up to how big of an opportunity this is

@ugcwithpenelope Maybe people just figured something out that we haven’t lol but yeah I find it so odd to even imagine for myself… I just had to go full-time to make any real money, but some people found the secret sauce I guess haha

TLDR: if you are in the UGC space for any length of time, you’ll find a creator talking about making 10k a month as a part time creator. Believe me when I tell you, this is NOT normal. They are some kind of alien UGC machine, most likely not a normal human like you and me.

I was making like 1-2k a month when I did this part time, and then after I quit my real estate job and jumped into UGC full-time, I now average in the 7-9k range. I cannot FATHOM making that kind of money (or more apparently) working nights and weekends…

If someone says they are making 10k a month ON THE SIDE with UGC… my unsolicited 2 cents is you probably should just tune that out. Protect your mindset and stay grounded in reality.

UGC is not for the faint of heart, and though it is an incredible opportunity, it is not something you should expect to make 5k a month right out the gate, ESPECIALLY PART TIME.

Anyway done ranting for now lol comment if you think I’m a loser or if I have a point.

Not gonna lie, scripting and concept building is one of the hardest parts of UGC for me.

I probably shouldn’t say this, but creativity has never been my strong suit (my background is entirely working in real estate).

BUT the more I do it, the better I get, and more importantly the quicker I find my flow.

I stay extremely busy with collabs where the brief and script is already built out for me, but I feel like I’ve lost a couple good opportunities simply because I didn’t produce a good concept upfront as required.

So we’re fixing that.
