Coach/sofa foam 🛋 💺 🛋 💺

A quality sofa isn't defined by the fabric alone, the right foam is what provides lasting comfort and durability.

Many people focus on softness. In reality, foam density has a much bigger impact on how long the sofa keeps its shape... Bya #carpenter 😄

While selecting foam for your Coach/sofa consider Foam density (higher density generally lasts longer). These are always more expensive than low density foams so of course you must consider your budget.

Laminated Block Boards🪵
✅ What is it? A block board is made by joining solid wood strips together and covering them with veneer or laminate on both sides. The laminate gives it a smooth, decorative, and durable finish.

Why choose it?
🫵 Stronger than MDF for many applications. 🫵Holds screws well. 🫵Resists bending better than plywood over long spans. 🫵Ready-to-use decorative surface. 🫵Easy to clean and maintain.

Things to note
⚠️ Not fully waterproof—protect exposed edges from moisture.
⚠️ Poor-quality boards may have voids that reduce strength.
⚠️ Slightly heavier than plywood but 🔥lighter than MDF.

The best furniture starts with the right material—not just a beautiful design.

Don't judge a furniture piece by how it looks, know what its made of🫵🫵. In these series I'll break down different furniture materials, compare their strengths and weaknesses, and help you choose the right one for every project.

I'll go straight on with engineered woods.

#thecarpenter'sopinion #001.

MDF
MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) is an engineered wood made by compressing fine wood fibers with resin under high heat and pressure. The result is a smooth, dense, and uniform board used in modern furniture.

✅ Why furniture makers love MDF: 👍 smooth surface for paint and laminates. 👍No wood grain or knots. 👍Easy to cut, shape, and CNC. Produces clean, modern finishes. 👍More affordable than solid wood for many applications.

⚠️ But MDF isn't perfect. Standard MDF absorbs water if left exposed, so it's not ideal for wet areas.(swells permanently if exposed to moisture), lower screw holding strength, can't resist impact, easily sag when loaded, fragile edges etc.
