Home care workers across PA united to make home care jobs good jobs and ensure access to quality care at home for all those in need. Project of @seiu & @afscme.
🚨 BIG NEWS: VP @KamalaHarris just unveiled a game-changing proposal to extend Medicare services to cover home care! 🙌 Let’s make sure quality care is available for all—& that those providing it are respected, protected, paid & have an opportunity to join a union! #CareCantWait
I’m in Pittsburgh chairing a @SenateAging field hearing on the caregiving crisis and how it’s squeezing Pennsylvania families. Tune in here: https://t.co/vclcqfGmle
On Tues 6/4 home care workers took over the capitol in Harrisburg 💜💪 We’re counting on @GovernorShapiro to follow through on his commitment #WalkADay in the shoes of a home care worker to see what it is like to care for others with physically demanding work without fair wages.
LIVE: Home care workers rally and march on Governor Shapiro’s office to call on him to walk-a-day in the shoes of a caregiver. Home care is growing across the country - EXCEPT in Pennsylvania.

Last week, I had the honor to #WalkADay in Lolita Owens's shoes. She has been a caregiver for seniors & people with disabilities, like Katrina Francis, for 20+ years.
@POTUS has made home care a priority for this Administration.
To all the caregivers: We appreciate you!
@SecBecerra Thank you to @SecBecerra for spending the time to walk and talk with Lolita and Miss Katrina. Caregivers like Lolita hope PA takes your lead in investing in livable wages and agency accountability now!
Every Pennsylvanian deserves safe, quality care at home.

Home care worker and leader Lolita showed @SecBecerra what it's like to care for her client Katrina! The Biden Administration's new rule requiring 80% of public funds go to workers will help make sure every American can find the caregiver that they need.

@GovernorShapiro What about caregivers like me who make poverty wages for decades! Too many people can't receive care b/c workers can't survive on the pay. It's time to give ALL home care workers a LIVING WAGE!
Time to decide @GovernorShapiro: Are you on the side of CEOs & private equity firms lining their pockets with public funds, or seniors & people with disabilities who need care at home? Support home care workers with a livable wage now! #CareOverProfits#SupportPAHomeCareWorkers
Home care worker Sherry just asked Attorney General candidates how they will hold private equity firms accountable:
“Only 65% of the public dollars sent to agencies makes it to care. That means they're putting 35 cents of every dollar we spend on care into their own pockets."
LIVE: Healthcare workers are asking Attorney General candidates the most important healthcare question: How will you protect our patients and communities from health system consolidation, private equity, and lack of accountability around public funding?

Live from Harrisburg: Caregivers and disability rights activists are calling on legislators to invest in home care services so that all Pennsylvanians can live at home with dignity and independence. https://t.co/LXCZOqspBH
That's why hundreds of us will be in Harrisburg this Wednesday to declare that the ONLY way to make quality, accessible care a reality is to invest in our care workforce and ensure our public dollars go to care — not subsidizing corporate greed! #CareOverProfits
Our state’s population is aging, but right now there's only 1 home care worker for every 6 people who need care. Why? Because we can't meet the overwhelming need for quality home care with a workforce that earns poverty-level wages, has no health insurance, and no time-off.
"I stand with many others in calling on Gov. Shapiro and the legislature to address the crisis in home care now.
Our aging population should be able to rely on independent care in the home and for home care workers to be able to live freer, fuller and better lives."
Fresh off the press: Joy Darden, home care worker & leader, highlights our demand for livable wages so every Pennsylvanian who needs quality home care can find a caregiver to provide it. Read her powerful OpEd that details our fight for justice for workers & those we care for:
"Many of us cannot afford to have a sick day, since they are unpaid. We receive no health insurance or retirement for decades of work [...] We deserve training, and support from our elected leaders, and we will not stop until justice is served to us."
HOME CARE WORKERS: Register to join us in Harrisburg on March 20th to talk to legislators and fight for livable wages for caregivers. We don't have to wait. We can win $15 (and a path to $20) an hour NOW #CareOverProfits
