The ability to communicate in more than one language is an awesome asset. It opens doors to new opportunities and new ways of thinking, feeling, and connecting with the world.
One of my deepest aspirations is that all children come to recognize at a young age how truly valuable their linguistic resources are. The languages they speak are not simply tools for conversation; they are windows into culture, identity, and human experience.

Listening to constructed languages like Klingon and Esperanto activates the same areas of the brain as listening to natural languages like English and Mandarin.
A team of researchers headed by Evelina Fedorenko gathered 50 proficient speakers of various constructed languages and monitored them using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) while they listened to sentences in the constructed and natural languages they knew well. The same areas of the brain were activated for both the natural and constructed languages.

Hoy comienza junio.
2/2 “The loss is just staggering,” says folklore scholar Laura Gibbs. Only a tiny fraction of African stories in hundreds of languages were ever recorded.
Helen Nde warns that without preservation and access, important cultural knowledge and perspectives could disappear forever.
