Most luxury beliefs are created in elite universities.

Many of the people who come up with these ideas may have an end goal that looks something like a socialist utopia or the toppling of capitalism as it exists today. They may believe that people are suffering from a Marxist idea called false consciousness. In other words, they think people do not understand what is really happening, and that we need to wake them up. So they set out to spread these ideas.

There is also a belief that anything that goes against traditional Western norms or values must automatically be good. Some people may spread these ideas with bad intentions, but I think that as these ideas move through elite media and then into the upper and upper-middle classes, most people come to believe they must be good.

These ideas are often presented in a way that appeals to people's desire to feel moral. They also appeal to a uniquely elite desire to feel special and different. You are told that you will be unique, sophisticated, and interesting. You will be able to perform the intellectual gymnastics needed to reach a conclusion that goes against what most people in society believe.

But there is often an unspoken sense of snobbery behind this. It suggests that ordinary people may not know what is best for them. Instead, it is the people who went through elite institutions who supposedly know better.
