@EtenBoby Oda does this a LOT, understating important plot/character aspects by weaving them in mid-sized panels/backgrounds. Even now in midst of my big OP analysis, I found tons of plot/character points that are overlooked to this day. Studying each single panel as you read is rewarding.

@RavindraJArt Again, control varies case-by-case when you're a producer. Timing matters: when a script is read, when chapters are written, etc. And ultimately, there's a reason why in 1200 chs, Sanji has no canon moments like that Film Z moment. That alone shows the diff between Oda & Toei.

Oda explicitly said over a decade ago (SBS Vol 56, Jump Ryu interview, & Jump Festa 2018) that he don't let editors have much influence in story compared to other mangas' editors (the influence is there, but it's minimal).

@SawdoJB @SoloKruzader It's actually really ironic too, considering that One Piece has probably the morally greyest protagonistic cast in the Big 3. Naruto and Ichigo just wouldn't be able to hang around Hakuba or Bege so easily. You'd think that would lead to LESS judgement of villains from OP fans.

@garlings_duck Minoruba may be the least popular OP character, but think about it like this: Even the LEAST popular character in One Piece has a big enough impact to set off a short chain reaction spiraling into the Straw Hats' biggest defeat in the story & kickstarted a whole 2-year timeskip!
