March 24 is Barrister Hassaan Khan Niazi’s birthday.
My dear Hassaan, wishing you a very happy birthday.
This is your fourth birthday in prison. You were in Adiala Jail on March 24, 2023, and today, on March 24, 2026, you remain behind bars. As a Pakistani, this is not merely a moment of profound grief and reflection for me, but one of deep pain and anguish: the State of Pakistan broke the law to arrest you and trampled the Constitution in the process, and through lies, deceit, oppression, and coercion, secured a sentence of ten years’ rigorous imprisonment against you. To advance its malicious objectives, it once again kept the country’s judicial system under its boot, while a handful of conspirators reduced Parliament and the judiciary to servitude before raw power.
Yet even in this suffering, I draw comfort from three realities n truths that such conspirators can never erase.
The first truth n reality is that every power in this country has a shelf-life, an expiry date. Pakistan’s dark seventy-five-year political power grabbing history shows that every era of coercion and tyranny eventually meets its own humiliation and disgrace. When that moment comes, those most responsible are often the first to jump from the sinking ship, disowning the very order they helped create.
The second truth n reality is that once the mighty are stripped of power, they can no longer face the public. For the rest of their lives, they lack the courage to show their faces to the people.
The third truth n reality, my dear Hassaan, is that prisoners like you, held in defiance of law and Constitution, do not emerge from prison with bowed heads or hide in holes. They walk back into society with their heads held high, becoming symbols of dignity, resilience, and steadfastness. Those who refuse to compromise with oppression earn lasting honour and respect.
The tragedy of May 9, is undoubtedly one of the darkest chapters in our country's history. Yet its gravest desecration was committed by those who were expected to investigate it honestly, bring the guilty to justice, and take the matter to its logical conclusion. Instead, they were more interested in political engineering. Under the cover of May 9, they tried to strengthen their masters in power,turned to a loot sale of PTI parliamentarians, and deliberately diluted the gravity of the incident. Those who sought apologies in exchange for rewards became disgraced and humiliated. The political engineers, in failing to deliver justice for May 9, stand guilty themselves.
My dear son, the period of imprisonment written in your destiny by Allah cannot be shortened by man. And when Allah has declared, “Indeed, with hardship comes ease; indeed, with hardship comes ease,” then no earthly power can keep you in prison for even one day longer than ordained. Surely, you stand among those brave and honourable men who did not bow their heads and endured imprisonment with dignity and grace. I am proud that I am the father of a brave son.

The emotional reaction today did not help our image. As a people we can’t coordinate or have deep well thought out plans. In this world emotional reactions by a backward people only means more beating more deaths. Israel is now a Middle East Asian player with an Indian and Us partnership.
