String theory is probably a field that has set back quant trading by at least 10 years. Stealing top tier trading talent to do make believe 26 dimensional geometry, inflate boomer professors’s grant budget, and produce zero testable hypotheses or applications after 50 years
@finn_hulse But yeah agree if we can’t stop the gambling epidemic, at least reducing avg vig/spread (on options/sports/casino), to a couple bps instead of 10% would be great. But retail doesn’t care. Casino that charges 10x vig and spends on marketing will do better. Incentives are bad :/
@finn_hulse Also a big part of the appeal for people is the sense that they can somehow predict (even though they can’t). Ie follow injury news or apple stock news, and bet the over or buy calls.
So your variance needs to be packaged in a way that is attractive like a slot machine or eq.
@XenyPM Do you usually get filled when game is over if you are 300k deep in the queue at 99.9c?
Feels like if not your selection is bad (ie you only get filled if it flips), although you got very unlucky :(
@andrewcourt1 It is fairly easy to trace insider trading / manipulation on chain.
But hard to know how they can regulate this without kyc. Banning accounts is useless as you can make unlimited new ones.
