Lessons from today's Adabul Mufrad class to the men as regards relating with the women.

We all should be humble, sometimes, things happen that we don't like. Abu Dharr was from those who accepted Islam very early. He's an honourable person.

He asked his wife to bring food but she refused, he said it again but she refused, every time he says it, she would refuse, and there was a visitor around.

He said to her, continue, you'll not go beyond what the Prophet had said. As if to say, you women are just like that what the Prophet has said.

The visitor asked, what's it that the Prophet said. There's a lesson here, the visitor didn't ask him what happened between him and his wife, he was only concerned about the statement of the Prophet. Some people in our time will start to ask different questions.

He said, the statement of the Prophet that, 'The women are bent rib, if you try to straighten her, you'll break her. If you deal with her gently despite her being bent, you should get what you want from her.'

Women are created from bent ribs. Allah told us, O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife Hawwâ (Eve).

So, women are created from the ribs side of Adam. We also understand this better in the ahadith of Abu Hurairah.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Take my advice with regard to women: Act kindly towards women, for they were created from a rib, and the most crooked part of a rib is its uppermost. If you attempt to straighten it; you will break it, and if you leave it alone it will remain crooked; so act kindly toward women". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

In another narration of Al-Bukhari and Muslim, Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "A woman is like a rib, if you attempt to straighten it, you will break it; and if you benefit from her, you will do so while crookedness remains in her".

In another narration of Muslim, Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Woman has been created from a rib and will in no way be straightened for you; so if you want to benefit from her, you will benefit from her while crookedness remains in her. If you attempt to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her is divorcing her".

So, if you want to take it 'word-for-word, letter-for-letter with your wife, you'll scatter everything.

As a man, you'll learn when to step-down, you'll know when to overlook, you will know when to be patient, you will know when to do as if you didn't hear, you will know when not to ignore. You must be wise to know what to apply in every situation.

If you want to divorce your wife whenever she misbehaves, how many wife will you marry? 200?

Men should be patient. If you want to stretch a woman by force, if you say 'you must learn to do this by force', you'll break her. And breaking her is divorcing her.

No one is perfect, there are somethings she's managing in you too, so manage her too like that. Women can't be straight everyday that there won't be a time she won't offend you. There will be days she would please you, there are times she'll do what doesn't please you. *Enjoy her like that*

If your marriage is not up to 10 or 15 years, you are a young person and new in marriage. Please be patient with women, they need a lot of patience. *Enjoy her like that*. If she gives you lemon, make it a lemon juice.

If you are patient with women, even when she's angry, she'll adjust herself. The wife of Abu Dharr later went to bring food after Abu Dharr had left her and continued with the visitor.

If you dislike something in a woman, she has other things that's good. There's one thing that can make you divorce her, she has other virtues that can also make you keep her.

If for every mistake you see in your wife, you want to divorce her, you'll hardly find a woman to stay with.

Let us be patient with women.

Is this a brand new scientific revelation?

They are surprised at how the Earth and the Moon move together through space, locked in their paths without colliding.
Allah described this orbital mechanics over 1400 years ago in a way that modern astronomy is just catching up to.

In Surah Ya-Sin (36:40), Allah says:
لَا الشَّمْسُ يَنبَغِي لَهَا أَن تُدْرِكَ الْقَمَرَ وَلَا اللَّيْلُ سَابِقُ النَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّ فِي فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ
"It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit."

Look at the specific Arabic word used at the end of that verse: يَسْبَحُونَ (yasbahun).

This translates to swimming or floating smoothly along a course. It is the perfect, literal description of celestial bodies gliding through the vacuum of space, bound by what these scientists now call gravity. They are not fixed to solid domes like the ancient Greeks believed. They are floating in their designated paths.

Allah repeats this in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:33):

وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ كُلٌّ فِي فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ
"And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all in an orbit are swimming."

They spend billions of dollars on deep space satellites and telescopes just to post an image of what an unlettered Prophet in the desert recited to his companions centuries ago. The truth has always been there for anyone willing to read.

We are and will be always 1400+ years ahead no matter the billions you spend.

Let me tell you about the picture in Frame 1.

In August 2017, as a litigation lawyer in Lagos, I had work to do that required me to be at the office during the weekend.

There was only one problem that weekend.

I had a 16 months old son, no nanny and no one to leave him with at home so I asked my boss if I could bring him with me and she was gracious enough to agree. While I was working, my son fell asleep and I had to lay him down on the floor beside my table.

In that moment, I took a picture of him sleeping and made a promise to myself that if I ever had my own firm, at some point in that journey, no woman working with me who had a caregiver emergency and needs to be at work will have to lay her baby on the floor.

That same day, I thought of my struggles as a breastfeeding mother in the workplace and promised again that no woman working with me who had a baby will ever have to struggle for a private space to use her breast pump at work, relieve her aching breast to focus and save some quality milk for her baby.

Today, we finished the renovation of our office building complete with a nursing room.

Litigation is tough for women.

The firm should not make it tougher.

Strichland LP has a nursing room and today, by the grace of God, I kept that promise.
