Judge Sweeney’s nationwide injunction is now stayed pending appeal, meaning qualifying Class of 2022 athletes lose its federal fifth-season protection for now.

California just granted transfer relief to 2022 basketball players. The market moved the same day.

Tuesday night. The Wisne board is unchanged. Injunction still on, Tenth Circuit stay still pending, Sweeney enforcement still pending. No new appellate orders verified today. No deadlines.

The real development came out of California.

𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝗥𝗢

A California court granted a temporary restraining order to another group of 2022 basketball players. The order grants immediate transfer relief and the ability to return to prior teams.

This matters because of a gap in Wisne. Judge Sweeney's injunction protects fifth-year eligibility but left NCAA transfer rules intact. Eligibility without the right to transfer has very little practical value for athletes who need to move. That gap is exactly why players keep going to state courts.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲

Jaxon Kohler at Michigan State entered the portal today after the TRO was granted. Kentucky is already scheduled to speak with him. Reed Bailey, a named plaintiff in the California case, got the TRO and committed to St. John's for his fifth season the same day.

Once a court opens that door, the market does not wait.

𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲

Every day the injunction operates, reliance deepens. Portal entries, recruiting boards updating, commitments made. It becomes harder to put back in the box regardless of what happens next.

The Tenth Circuit stay motion is the biggest thing to watch right now. A stay from the appellate court would immediately impact 2022 athletes nationwide who have already signed or committed to return to their original schools relying on the federal injunction.

Meanwhile, Sweeney's pending enforcement ruling is still on the board. If she adds transfer protections or restitution language to the federal order, that could resolve the transfer gap across the board.

Wisne injunction is on. Class is protected tonight. California opened transfer relief that Wisne does not cover. The market already moved on it. Two federal rulings still pending with no deadline.

BREAKING: A California judge has granted sweeping TRO relief to more than 70 college athletes against the NCAA.

The order protects 2026-27 participation over fifth-year eligibility, transfer-portal and certain pro-contract issues, and blocks restitution/ghost-transfer penalties.

A preliminary injunction hearing is set for Aug. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
