Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has welcomed a final court order authorising the permanent forfeiture of assets worth approximately R325 million linked to businessman Hangwani Morgan Maumela and the Tembisa Hospital procurement scandal.

The order demonstrates that procurement enforcement does not end with cancelling irregular contracts. Authorities can also trace and recover assets connected to the misuse of public funds.

Tenders‑SA’s procurement analysis highlights the wider lessons for public institutions and suppliers:

• Supplier due diligence must examine ownership and connected-company networks
• Repeated low-value awards should be reviewed for possible bid splitting
• Pricing should be tested against comparable contracts and market rates
