"Be perfect" is an active, present command independent of past and future. In this moment, be perfect, repent and love. God has always forgiven those that repent and turn from wickedness.

@joshwhitlatch JDubb, it is our unity with Christ that molds us to righteousness, obedience, and good works. If youre still habitually sinning, it's a sign theres still a barrier somewhere that needs to be broken down. All the apostles say you can look at fruit as a marker of faith thats alive.

@yolotron3000 @MrTimothyRenfro He then immediately talks about circumcision. Jews at the time were boasting in covenant inclusion over the gentiles and saying that they are justified by circumcision. Paul is saying you are justified by faith, which necessitates obedience to Christ.

Second, guess what Paul references right before Galatians 5:14? Circumcision.

Paul literally says "what counts is faith working through love". Verse 14 is from Leviticus. He's clearly not referring to moral commands.

@Canonandcreed @needGod_net Name a single place where Paul is speaking about faith apart from works, and is not talking about circumcision. Romans 3? Circumcision. Ephesians 2? Circumcision. Even in Galatians 3, he starts immediately talking about jew vs. gentile and the implication is covenant law.

@Canonandcreed @needGod_net But they're not wrong. In nearly every place Paul talks about salvation by grace through faith apart from works, he immediately brings up circumcision. He's talking about the Mosaic law every time, not Christ's commandments.
