@PhilipPullman Yes… sort of. It’s decentralised, meaning your account is tied to whichever server you pick when opening it. And you follow servers, not accounts. This makes it hella-awkward to find people, and an utter ball-ache to curate a feed you actually want
@andrewducker Ok - login isn’t broken, it’s server-specific. You can’t just ‘log in to Mastodon’, but rather your own account server.
You *can*, however, use the same account details on multiple servers and use them all at will (which the Tootle app supports)
@andrewducker Moving to Mastodon is relatively easy. Finding people there is an entirely different matter.
Their web-portal for remote sign in via Twitter is also (afaict) hideously broken
Note re Mastodon:
Following a link to someone’s account is super-awkward, because login is server-specific. Your email & password are NOT universal.
This means you’ll need to search for people’s accounts manually from within the app. You can’t just click link & follow.
@andrewducker Discovered early this morning I’ve had an account on https://t.co/I2mbj4G1h8 for ages. Now fully signed in on all devices and hunting for people to follow. Same handle
@Nheduana@emrazz@GoAngelo If James Comey hadn’t launched a *completely bullshit* investigation of Clinton mere days before the election, she’d probably still be President.
Never, ever forget how much harm that man did.
@Kepler_L2 Not really.
All reviews suggest 4090 is *wildly OP*, at massive power draw, unit size and cost
RDNA3 is ‘good enough’ at sane power, size and cost.
It’s exactly what I wanted from AMD.
@informema @JamesSurowiecki Or they can stay but refuse to pay.
Which will lead directly to fake accounts pretending to be legit because they *do* have blue check marks, and real people assumed to be the fake.
That’s how fucking stupid this is.
@RsnblOne @itsJeffTiedrich Tribel seems a sane alternative, explicitly designed as a Twitter alt and vocal about already having banned certain accounts
I have a mastodon account but holy *fuck* feed curation is utterly miserable.
@MxOolong Mastodon is a great idea, but also a massive decentralised pain in the arse to navigate and find actual people.
Tribel, meanwhile, looks much closer to an actual Twitter alternative.
@PhilipPullman The setup is explicitly designed to entirely mitigate a Musk-style takeover, which is great. It just means setting it up as a legit Twitter alternative is … not easy.
@CalltoActivism Not a bot
I am deeply concerned about Musk turning this service into a toxic hellhole, and prepared to leave if that happens.
My thanks to Twitter shareholders for selling us all the fuck out. I hope they’re thrilled.
