Never forget when Rick Monday saved an American flag from being burned at Dodger Stadium, earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
On April 25, 1976, Chicago Cubs outfielder Rick Monday was playing against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium when two protesters entered the field. They attempted to set an American flag on fire in the outfield during the game.
Monday quickly ran toward the protesters and grabbed the flag before it could be burned. The crowd erupted in applause, and the stadium later displayed the message, “Rick Monday… You Made A Great Play.” The moment became one of baseball’s most memorable patriotic acts.
