You heard me right. If you cared about your readers, you would retype every citation by hand instead of importing it from Google Scholar or Zotero. Otherwise how can we know you truly engaged with the work?

@hf_222222 That's pretty obviously not all that is there. If you read the encyclical, it's definitely not an endorsement of AI. Granted, the perception will likely not be determined by what's actually in the encyclical.
Disappointing to see this.
We need curious and humble exploration of the complex Qs around ai understanding and consciousness, not overconfident sweeping proclamations.
And some of these claims are blatantly false. AIs clearly do understand the work they produce.
