Through strengthened coordination with @MONUSCO, UNMAS safely destroyed 264, 681 expired ammunition and pyrotechnics belonging to the MONUSCO Force, reducing diversion risks, curbing illicit circulation, and enhancing the safety of peacekeepers and communities in the DRC.
On Tuesday, DSRSG/RC @UlrikaR_UN led a Mine Action Programme visit to the Tunisian Counter-IED Centre of Excellence in Bizerte to explore opportunities for specialized cooperation in Libya, including training in explosive ordnance disposal and countering improvised explosive devices.
DSRSG/RC highlighted the Centre’s potential to complement the existing expertise of Libyan counterparts and strengthen national capabilities to address explosive hazards, protect civilians from explosive remnants of war and reduce the risk of unplanned explosions, and how such cooperation will contribute to security and stability across the region and beyond.
The Centre’s leadership presented its mandate, facilities and training curricula. Established in 2015 and recently recognized by the United Nations Mine Action Service, the Centre supports national and regional capacity-building in counter-IED and explosive ordnance disposal, contributing to humanitarian mine action and civilian protection.
The Defence Attachés of Germany and Italy also joined the visit.

From 24 - 26 June UNMAS convened 20 experts to review the DRC’s draft National IED Strategy in Kinshasa The consultation produced a revised, harmonized document that will support the National Counter Terrorism Commission-led technical validation.
Du 24 au 26 juin à Kinshasa, l’UNMAS a réuni 20 experts pour relire le projet de Stratégie nationale de lutte contre les EEI. Les travaux ont abouti à un document harmonisé, qui servira de base à la validation technique par la Commission Nationale de Lutte Contre le Terrorisme.
Entre avril et juin 2026, UNMAS @MONUSCO a formé 8 militaires des @FARDC_officiel en neutralisation des explosifs niveaux 1 et 2 à Beni, renforçant leurs capacités à détecter, neutraliser et détruire les engins explosifs, tout en protégeant les civils dans l’est de la RDC.

@MONUSCO strengthened secure weapons management in the DRC through the donation of pistol safes to the Army and Police in Beni and Kinshasa. Combined with WAM training, this donation promotes safe storage and accountability, thus reducing armed violence.
