20 May 2026 | The @_AfricanUnion and @UN convened the Fourth High Level Joint Retreat on Peace and Security in Africa in #Libreville, #Gabon, bringing together senior AU and UN officials to strengthen cooperation, joint analysis & coordinated action. 1/5
I had a productive meeting with H.E Ambassador Parfait Onanga of UNAU, discussing several critical issues concerning peace and security both in the region and across the continent.

H.E. @ymahmoudali delivered remarks on the evolving outlook of peace and security in Africa🕊️, while H.E. Amb. @Bankole_Adeoye led discussions on preventive diplomacy, coordination mechanisms and operational effectiveness across AU Liaison Offices and Missions.

On the margins of the Chairperson’s #17thAUHighLevelRetreat, the 4⃣th Annual Joint Retreat of the @_AfricanUnion and @UN Special Representatives was held in #Libreville, #Gabon 🇬🇦
The high-level engagement brought together #AU and #UN leadership to strengthen strategic coordination 🤝 on conflict prevention, mediation, peacebuilding & governance across Africa.
Discussions focused on enhancing #AU-#UN cooperation in addressing evolving peace and security challenges, including terrorism, violent extremism, unconstitutional changes of government, climate-related security risks & governance deficits.
The meeting also advanced a common understanding of emerging continental dynamics and identified areas of complementarity across the peace continuum — from conflict prevention to peacebuilding. ✨
