Anyone who thinks Kelsey Fitzsimmons is guilty has clearly never experienced depression or suicidal thoughts.

I hate that I can empathize with her, but I do.

There’s another layer here that people are ignoring. She was postpartum. Postpartum depression is not the “baby blues” and it does not magically disappear after a few weeks. It can last for months, even years.

We heard her say that officers told her it would “only be two weeks” without her four month old son. Two weeks to a new mother is not just time passing. It feels endless. And when you factor in postpartum depression, that separation is not just hard, it’s destabilizing.

Women’s health, especially postpartum mental health, is constantly minimized and misunderstood. There is this narrative that after six weeks, women are supposed to bounce back and be fine. That is not reality for a lot of mothers.

Kelsey and her son should have been handled with care. Instead, her child became leverage in a situation that looks more like a man who did not know how to end a relationship. In a matter of moments, she lost her partner, her child, her home, her dog, and her job.

And if you cannot understand why someone, even someone without depression, would be completely overwhelmed after losing every part of their life at once, then you are actively choosing not to understand.. while also looking like a complete asshole.

This is the face of a woman, that dared to take a whole damn narsaccist & incompetent/shady police force head-on, that were 100% determined to take everything from her; her child, her livelihood, her house, her reputation, her doggy, and almost her life! I truly hope Judge Karp comes back with an obvious NOT GUILTY verdict (sooner rather than later) so this woman can begin the next phase of reclaiming her life back! NOTHING can ever truly replace what she has really lost here, which was crucial time with her baby boy, but I hope they are reunited soon and can begin the 1st steps of the healing stage of the most traumatic event one could experience, she deserves at least that much!
