The ASARECA Board Directors have appointed Dr. Sylvester Dickson Baguma @sdbaguma as Interim Executive Director of the Association effective October 7, 2024. Dr. Baguma is currently the Director of the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) Bulindi Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute, Uganda. He is also a member of NARO Governing Council, the highest Governance body of the Organization.

Dr. Baguma has urgent tasks to accomplish including Supporting the Board of Directors as they kick-off recruitment of a substantive Executive Director for @ASARECA, leveraging on existing partnerships with complementary Agricultural Research for Development institutions and development partners, and act in the best interest of Member States among other priorities.

Earlier today, Dr. Kassim Sadik, Deputy Director General in charge of Agricultural Technology Promotion, represented NARO at the launch of the Agricultural Industrialization Pavilion at the UMA Trade Show grounds in Kampala.

The event was presided over by Hajjat Fatuma Grace Kazigati, representing Agriculture Minister Hon. Frank Tumwebaze.

Discussions focused on supporting industrialists in the agriculture sector while ensuring benefits for farmers and other stakeholders along the value chain.

NARO is showcasing technologies designed for high yields, pest and disease resistance, fast maturity, enhanced nutrient value, and value addition machinery.
