🚨Zidane on Kylian Mbappe’s gesture towards N’golo Kante:
“Honestly… what Mbappé did was really disrespectful. You don’t just walk up to a senior player like N’Golo Kanté and casually demand the captain’s armband like you’re asking for a bottle of water. That’s not how real leadership works.
Kanté has been quietly giving everything for the team—covering every blade of grass, making tackles, organizing the midfield—without ever seeking the limelight. And then Mbappé comes on and basically says, ‘Hand over the armband’? It’s not just about the piece of cloth; it’s about respect and the team’s culture.
If you truly want to be captain, you don’t demand it. You earn it through your actions, you inspire others, and you grow into the role. What Mbappé did there showed poor judgment. The players noticed, the fans noticed… and it definitely left a sour taste. Leadership isn’t something you’re entitled to—it’s something you prove over time…That was straight-up disrespectful.”
At the beginning...
Customers would walk in and ask:
Do you have XYZ Plantain Chips?
"No"
The No was getting too much, then I decided to let them in.
This is about a notable plantain chips supplier in the whole town.
I'm going to be honest.
In the whole federation, no one does plantain chips better than them... At that time.
So, they dominated the local market...
That it got into their heads.
And on the other hand...
I just started the business that patronizes them.
Started very little.
But while they were supplying us, their ego was high.
And a lot of unpleasant policies surrounding their supply.
A real-life story.
You ask them to supply you, and they tell you it is not your turn yet, that they have many orders to attend to first.
Great Grace.
Our stock would finish, and we'd have to wait one to two weeks.
One day...
During the Cashless Policy.
They supplied, and it was time for payment...
They increased the pack price by about 15k.
I was around, so it triggered me.
Because the effect on the price would go up by almost 1k.
Really unfair and inconsiderate.
Then I said no.
We argued, and right on that spot, I swore...
I swore not to ever keep their product on my shelf again.
And that was it.
Although...
There was another woman.
Who supplies all this sachet oily overtipped plantain chips that mess up your hand when you make an attempt to eat it.
We were selling for NGN 100 at that time.
What do you expect of a small business?
So...
I called her.
"Come and see me this evening. "
She came.
I picked one of the Chips supplied by those guys with attitude.
"Take, and look... Can you make something like this?"
"No. I cannot," she said.
Sigh!
But I kept the sample in my office.
Another day, she supplied us with her oily plantain chips, and I asked her again.
"You should be able to supply this."
And again...
"No, I cannot make this kind of chips."
I asked this woman repeatedly for months.
And it was No... ALL THE TIME.
Then one day, I called her.
"Come, I want you to do anything inside a container, and supply us."
"How much would 5 containers cost?"
She mentioned the amount.
Gave her the money and told her to supply whichever way.
5 days later, she's here with the product.
And Oh My God!
It was a total mess.
But I took it, and right in front of her, I shelved them myself.
All this time, my own business was just growing.
People barely know the business.
And before she left, I gave her money to supply another 5.
And being a Plantain lover of all kinds, I offered some cents on how she could make it better.
She came again...
Slightly better.
Then another time... Better.
And by her 8th supply, or thereabout...
Everything was heavenly already.
She migrated from producing the sachet chips to the container pack in three sizes.
While I was pushing her...
I was equally pushing my own business.
And I pushed my business to a level where it crushed about 6 other businesses.
These 6 businesses were the businesses that other supplier wasalways bragging about.
And by year 2...
My business has been fully accepted in the whole town.
It was that kind of growth where people say someone used Jazz.
The growth was loud.
And everyone wants to visit my business.
I didn't stop with the new woman there.
After I noticed she's meeting our demand...
I further gave her upfront to produce and supply other stores.
The effect of this?
Business went drastically down for those guys doing gragra in two ways:
Because one... Products move x 5 or 10 at my own place than any other place.
Two... this new woman has gone in with a lesser pricing with equal quality of product.
And Three... I have given this new woman's product visibility at my own place, that people look for it elsewhere in case they need plantain chips.
And that was it...
Then one Sunday afternoon... I got a knock on my office door.
And guess who?
You are smart!
Haha...
It was the former supplier.
Trying to come and make things right.
But it is too what...?
Too late.
That was how I single-handedly raised a strong competition against a business.
They have not recovered from it till now.
Wasn't my prayer, but that's business.
So, tell me...
What did you learn from this?
