The Department of Health (DOH) has reported the first mpox (formerly monkeypox) case in the Philippines this year, bringing the country’s total number of cases to 10 [1].

This announcement comes just days after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the ongoing mpox outbreak in some African countries a 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧 [2].
