A problem: you can’t unhear the shit these people say. Even after years and many successes later, I’ll never forget some of the mean, dumb, un-constructive things they said.
Dear VC kids (and many adults): it’s fine! You can be just a passive observer on board calls. It’s ok to not have a view rather than burden founders with your 0 execution, building and scaling experience backed ++ podcast and analyst report regurgitated insights. Cos when you do it two things happen: in the inexperienced founders case , they get shit advise which is hard for some of us to undo. The experienced founders just mentally start writing you off. So your value add is just basically value destructive for you or the co! Put the money in and be quiet, that’s the net positive EV decision. Please. Pretty please 🙏🏼
When selling to businesses, never worry about your price tag. Businesses aren’t price sensitive, they’re ROI sensitive. Focus on the return and the price & profit will take care of itself.
Saw tweet about sf tech week. Then saw another tweet saying it’s tech week all the time. Then saw someone say they saw a tweet anout tech week being all the time.
And now I’m just gay. No coming back. Full on.
When investors decide to become founders I’m often shocked at how bad / cliche their ideas are.
Would your former VC firm ever invest in something like this?? 🤷🏼♀️
I sell to sales and marketing.
Remember, sales and marketing people will take a gamble on anything if it means even a modest incremental improvement.
This is a benefit and red herring when selling into revenue generating part of the company.
if you're in sales. do not listen to people who sell to sales and marketing.
if you're selling any non-sales widgets, you can't trust these people. everyone wants more pipeline. you don't have to be that smart to sell to sales leaders. the strategies that work for those folks will not work for you.
if you sell big deals or sell to IT folks and like, don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong a lot of times, you're just trying to adopt linkedin slop from folks who sell dialers and call recording software
it's a totally different game, and doesn't require much brian power.
I have a lot of customers.
Vast majority of the the deals involving leaders turned out to be biggest acv.
Mid levels buy solutions to annoyances.
Leaders by existential pain killers and future destroyers.
@FidelCacheFlow This is interesting. I presume similar for most people. I just saw it too many times.
What do you think is a 10x you are doing right now?
