Why does Utah need a 63 square mile data center that will require more than twice Utah's current total electrical consumption? Why does the country, for that matter?
When Alaska built the oil pipeline everyone got a lifelong dividend. Utah negotiated a deal so it's citizens are going to be left with a perpetual bill for the privilege of building this data center.
We had all the cards. "Mr. Wonderful" needed our water, land, power, and natural gas. He even admitted there were competitors. We could have received full tax revenue and even asked for them to pay for the GSL pacific ocean pipeline or at least part of it. Instead @GovCox gives him tax subsidies and everything he wants. He has no idea how to negotiate from a position of strength.
He's not only the most corrupt governor we have ever had, he's the dumbest
@GavinNewsom All voting districts should divide the space in question so that the length of the sum of the borders is minimized. Geometry will be a better arbitrator than politics.
๐จ The LARGEST "hyperscale" data center in the world is being proposed in Box Elder County, Utah.
It's approx. 40,000 acres/62 square miles, backed by Canadian millionaire Kevin OโLeary.
Fast-tracked by Utahโs Military Installation Development Authority, backed by Gov. Spencer Cox, with the public locked out of the decision process.
Utah, say hello to a 50% increase in COโ emissions, polluted water, and 24/7 noise and light pollution.

Economics: The optimal level of tax evasion, govt waste, crime, and even voter fraud is often *above* zero.
(Because getting to literal zero usually requires imposing dramatically higher costs & burdens on everyone else to ensure prevention of those last, few, toughest cases.)
