NEW: Federal prosecutors in the Western District of Texas filed 500 new immigration and immigration-related criminal cases in just two weeks — from Aug. 28 through Sept. 10, according to U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons.

449 of those cases were handled by the Del Rio and El Paso offices.

Among the cases highlighted by prosecutors:

• Two U.S. citizens, George Soledad-Lucero and Sarah Nicole Olivas, are accused of driving near Fort Hancock to pick up illegal immigrants for an expected $2,000 payment. Prosecutors say they allegedly coordinated through Instagram.

• Jorge Herrera-Vargas, an illegal immigrant from Mexico — charged with illegal re-entry after being deported nine times, most recently July 16. Prosecutors say he was convicted of his third DUI in June.

• Christian Ernesto-Lopez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico — charged with illegal re-entry after an Aug. 3 removal. His criminal history includes convictions for assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon and two domestic violence offenses, including assaulting a pregnant woman.

• Santos Gomez-Delacruz, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala — charged with illegal re-entry after being removed seven times, most recently in March.

• Johan Alexander Moncada-Narvaez, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela — arrested by Border Patrol in Del Rio and charged with illegal re-entry after being deported in August. Prosecutors say he was convicted in Minnesota in July of engaging in prostitution with a 14- to 15-year-old and electronic communication relating to sexual conduct with a child.

• Iden Escobar-Loaiza, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala — charged with illegal re-entry. His record includes a third DUI conviction, inflicting corporal injury and disorderly intoxication.

• Adrian Missael Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico — charged with illegal re-entry in Del Rio after two previous removals. Prosecutors say his record includes two convictions for burglary of a vehicle, vehicle theft and property theft.

• Jorvin Joseph Ramos-Orellana, an illegal immigrant from Honduras — arrested in Eagle Pass and charged with illegal re-entry after being deported in February. Prosecutors say he was previously convicted of terroristic threats and acts, reckless conduct and aggravated assault.

• Oscar Ernesto Romero-Aravelo, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador — arrested in Eagle Pass after four previous deportations. His criminal history includes three DUI convictions.

The cases were referred or supported by Border Patrol, ICE, DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals and ATF, along with state and local law enforcement.

The prosecutions are part of DOJ’s Operation Take Back America.

Mexican national Luis Carlos Davalos-Lopez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to smuggle aliens into the U.S. through an underground tunnel from Ciudad Juarez to El Paso. This case is part of the #HSTF initiative. ATF, working with FBI, DEA, HSI, and partners, helped dismantle the network tied to cartel activity involving human smuggling and firearms trafficking.

“Criminals who traffic human beings and firearms are exactly the individuals ATF works every day to stop,” said @ATFDirectorRC. “Our focus is squarely on violent offenders and the criminal networks that threaten public safety.
