1. A lot of people will try to give you the clichéd "stay consistent." Even though that is true, one thing they fail to tell creators is to never become complacent. There's always something to improve each upload, whether that's editing, video/audio quality, commentary, etc.

After each upload, watch the video over and really criticize yourself on what you could do differently next time. There's nothing wrong with being proud of your work, especially when starting off. The issue is believing you're above improvement.

2. The title and thumbnail need just as much attention as the video itself. Think of them as the "packaging" of your video, you gotta make people WANT to click on it. You can have the best video in the world, but it won't mean anything if the title and thumbnail doesn't lure people in. Simple things like brightness/saturation adjustments, adding glow or stroke effects to elements to make them pop out, and text can turn a mediocre thumbnail to something viewers want to click.

3. The first 15 seconds of your video is very crucial. You have to let the viewers know exactly what to expect from the video. Also, a lot of people on YouTube are watching on TV now, and when they hover over a video, it shows a 40- second preview. So in my opinion, the first 40 seconds of your video needs to be the most informative and engaging to sway people into clicking.

4. Study your analytics. Your analytics tell you exactly what you need to improve. If your CTR (click-through-rate) is below I'd say 5%, that means people aren't clicking your video, which tells you your title and thumbnail needs improvement. If your AVD (average view duration) is low, that means people aren't sticking around. After 1-2 days of your video being uploaded, you can see your audience retention, which is a line graph that shows drops and spikes during certain parts of your video. You can utilize that to find out which parts people didn't find interesting and which parts people kept rewinding.

5. Don't get discouraged, Have fun! The hard truth is people judge books by their cover. They'd rather click on a channel with 100K subscribers than a new channel. But you'll eventually find your audience as long as you stay true to who you are and what you enjoy. Appreciate the numbers going up and be passionate in your videos, your viewers will resonate with your energy/personality.

Tl;dr: Improve with each video and have fun doing what you love, the numbers will follow! I'm no huge YouTuber but I've been doing this long enough to give new creators a bit of advice going in. Hopefully it helps somebody :)
