Since departing Naval Station Mayport for deployment May 11, Sailors aboard Freedom- variant littoral combat ship USS Cooperstown (LCS 23) have been hard at work supporting U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) border security objectives.

The Department of War is providing support to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the World Cup matches held in the U.S. from June 11 to July 19, 2026. Support is similar to what has been provided in the past to ensure the safety and security of major events such as the State of the Union. USNORTHCOM’s mission is homeland defense including defense support of civil authorities. We are proud to support and enable a safe and secure tournament.

On April 23, 2026, Wellton Border Patrol Station agents and Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents responded to a request from the Mexican Consulate regarding a missing individual abandoned in the remote desert. The subject was found suffering from heat-related stress and required medical evacuation. This incident highlights the extreme dangers of attempting to cross the border through desert terrain, especially the risk of heat exhaustion and life-threatening conditions. Crossing the border in these areas can be deadly—do not risk your life.

Over the last two days, #USNORTHCOM and #USSOUTHCOM participated in Warfighter Talks, addressing hemipsheric approaches to hemispheric and homeland threats.

Our adversaries operate seamlessly across our areas of responsibility – seeing a single, continuous battlespace. It is time we operate with that same mindset. The Screaming Eagles effectively cut through friction, securing critical intelligence authorities, and empowering subordinate commanders with the agency and agility to defeat emerging threats," said USNORTHCOM Commander Gregory M. Since deploying to the southern border, the @USArmy 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has been defending the territorial integrity of the United States.

During the 9 month deployment the @101stAASLTDIV soldiers:

- Served over 231 days as the Joint Task Force Southern Border HQ
- 99,245 detection and monitoring operations
- Executed 65 named operations
- Increased domain awareness
- Disrupted narcoterrorist operations
- Locked down the southern border

As part of the bilateral military relationship between Mexico and the United States, from May 11 to 13, 2026, 77 students from Mexico’s National Defense College participated in a study visit to the facilities of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, U.S.

The students engaged in discussions with U.S. Northern Command leaders focused on national defense functions, defense support to civilian authorities, security cooperation and logistics, as well as operations along the shared border.

This academic activity enhances cooperation procedures that contribute to strengthening
the capabilities of the Mexican and U.S. Armed Forces, under the guiding principles: reciprocity, shared and differentiated responsibility, mutual trust, and full respect for sovereign decisions and territories.
