Or put another way: a train between Nashville and St Louis connects two great cities but would bypass one of my favorite memories of that journey: Metropolis, IL.

I wanted to return just to see every place, street, house, etc mentioned. A walking tour of the city led by that book.

Under the laughs, it’s a tight, well-built detective story: drug trafficking, murder-for-hire, and a film-noir backbone; just brighter, with punchy one-liners.
