When we animate icons, we pick the tool based on what the icon actually needs:
- Simple SVG line icons → GSAP or Motion dev, animate inside the SVG.
- Interactive, mix of vector and raster, visual effects → Rive.
- 3D → Blender (or Spline).
- Not 3D but visually complex → After Effects.
- ASCII / pixel look → WebGL shader.
For SVG animations or WebGL work, you can already successfully use AI. Gemini 3.1 Pro and Opus 4.6 are the best for these tasks.
For Blender or After Effects, make a loop or a one-time animation and embed it as a video. Use ffmpeg to prepare assets in H.265, VP9, and AV1 codecs. Just Google my article and follow the steps - nothing complicated, but the output will be lightweight. Don't be afraid to use videos. They don't affect the performance of the site and will look super crisp at the size of the icons.
If you choose Rive, try to use it for more animations on the site - otherwise, loading a runtime might feel heavy for "just a few icons."
If you do animation with WebGL shaders, just pay attention to performance and turn it on or off when the animation is out of the viewport.
With @primeuicom we intentionally launched without a free tier. Here are the main reasons:
Early release
It’s not the final product yet. There are still a few important things we need to ship to complete the full flow from my point of view. That said, it’s already very good for prototyping and can significantly speed up development of Next.js + Tailwind CSS sites for companies and agencies that want to build on this stack.
Gradual feedback
We’re a small team and most likely won’t be able to respond to every single person. A free tier usually attracts a lot of users who try the product even when it’s not really built for their use case.
Bootstrapped product
We’re running this on our own money. Considering the points above, it doesn’t make sense to burn AI tokens on random experiments and trial users.
---
Really appreciate everyone who has supported the product so far. We’re shipping a lot of new features and will start releasing some of them next week, so the product will become more and more useful every day.

We started Prime UI because we believe site builders that do not output real code end up slowing you down.
So instead of building another “app builder,” we focused on marketing sites, the work we know best after 10+ years of designing and building high-end websites at Pixel Point. Human expertise combined with AI scalability is what we believe in.
Prime UI isn’t here (yet) to fully replace your stack, but it is already capable of saving you hundreds of hours in prototyping and the early phases of your next site project.
What’s next:
MCP: continuously add new pages to your site from Prime UI, aligned with your project setup and style.
Skills: an AI-agent-friendly concentrate of our years of website design and development expertise.
It is time to ditch old habits. Fear no code and build sites fast, ready for the AI era.
Wild.

+1 for "context engineering" over "prompt engineering".
People associate prompts with short task descriptions you'd give an LLM in your day-to-day use. When in every industrial-strength LLM app, context engineering is the delicate art and science of filling the context window with just the right information for the next step. Science because doing this right involves task descriptions and explanations, few shot examples, RAG, related (possibly multimodal) data, tools, state and history, compacting... Too little or of the wrong form and the LLM doesn't have the right context for optimal performance. Too much or too irrelevant and the LLM costs might go up and performance might come down. Doing this well is highly non-trivial. And art because of the guiding intuition around LLM psychology of people spirits.
On top of context engineering itself, an LLM app has to:
- break up problems just right into control flows
- pack the context windows just right
- dispatch calls to LLMs of the right kind and capability
- handle generation-verification UIUX flows
- a lot more - guardrails, security, evals, parallelism, prefetching, ...
So context engineering is just one small piece of an emerging thick layer of non-trivial software that coordinates individual LLM calls (and a lot more) into full LLM apps. The term "ChatGPT wrapper" is tired and really, really wrong.
