Building a movement to overcome systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation and the war economy. Everybody's got a right to live. #PoorPeoplesCampaign
Remember "...the poor person does not exist as an inescapable fact of destiny...The poor are a by-product of the system in which WE live & for which WE are responsible...the poverty...is a demand that we go & build a different social order."

“As we all know, there’s a #housingcrisis going on in Utah right now. We have some 50,000 more families than we have places for them to live,” Waldrip said during a committee hearing for the bill. #utleg#utpol

2020 data showed over 20% of San Juan County residents were living in poverty & that average monthly wage for residents of Salt Lake Co. went down by 21%.
#utleg should recognize that poverty is an urban & rural issue. #utpol

In that group of Sacred Peace Walkers are some of Nevada's Poor People's Campaign. The Christian Season of Lent begins this week, and ends the week of the event shown in the retweet of @NVDesertExp#SacredPeaceWalk
Our friends in Western Shoshone & Paiute lands (so-called Nevada) are hosting the prayer-walk against megaviolence and drone violence again this year. There's limited space, because it's a supported walk (logistics!) so register with @NVDesertExp via https://t.co/WFeyiuO8nY
According to @uscensusbureau Historical Poverty Tables, the % of people living in poverty has INCREASED year on year from 2018 to 2020: the years for which this data is available.
Somebody's hurting Utah's people & WE won't be SILENT anymore! #utpol#poorpeoplescampaign
44% of people in #VoterSuppression#Texas are poor or low-wealth, 12.6 million residents! That’s why @texas_ppc is joining the Mass Poor People’s & Low-Wage Workers’ Assembly & #MoralMarch on Washington & #ToThePolls Mobilization Tour on Feb. 28 @ 8pm ET! https://t.co/pPd4L5m3Xv
.@Ch_JesusChrist, though apolitical in nature, can the Church see voting rights as central to addressing ongoing inequity in the nation of its founding?
Please join the call & movement in the faith community. Voting rights is a theological issue. @byutv

Today's #WorldDayofSocialJustice2022 "recognizing the need to promote social justice, which includes efforts to tackle issues such as poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment, human rights, & social protections."
What WE do. Every day. @UniteThePoor#ForwardTogether
Unsheltered people have it hard in the best of times: that's why it's called "sleeping rough" in some places.
But especially in the COVID pandemic & as infection/hospitalization rates spike, we need to be thinking of & serving those who have nowhere safe & warm to go.
The topline may come as no surprise to...well, anyone.
But thank you to @UTWomenLeaders for doing the work to put a sense of scale to the problem of economic disparity based in sex & race.
Every story matters. Every injustice matters.
That's why we say #forwardtogether.
@UofUHealth Poverty in Utah is hitting women and minorities harder than others. @UTWomenLeaders found 9.6% of Utah women live in poverty vs. 8.2% of men. Meanwhile, nearly 37% of Black women in Utah live in poverty vs. 8.5% of white women. https://t.co/8aYHZKal4p

"@Sen_JoeManchin, from Roberts’ home state of West Virginia, objected to extending the credit out of concern that the money would discourage people from working & fuel inflation...305K West Virginia children benefited from the expanded credit last month."

"[Columbia] researchers looked closely at the expanded child tax credit, put in place by Congress’ March 2021 American Rescue Plan...[they] found that measure alone kept roughly 3.5M children out of poverty in each month for which data is available."
While researchers estimated that poverty in the U.S. declined in 2021, they cautioned that the trend could be temporary, with many pandemic-era benefits ending. So where does that leave American families now? https://t.co/5UNOLANex8
Our national co-chair has been awarded the 2022 @TheKingCenter Beloved Community Civic Leadership Award
He accepted that award "not as an individual, but as one call to serve a movement that has tried to listen & follow Dr. King's last instructions to us" #forwardTOGETHER#utpol
In 2022, four of Utah's six neighboring states will raise their minimum wage.
Our state, along w Idaho & Wyoming, has a minimum wage rate equal to or below the federal rate w no intent to raise it.
20% of Utahns pay more than 50% of their income just to cover the rent.
Workers in 25 States and 56 localities are getting a raise in 2022 – and that’s thanks to our movement for dignity and respect on the job. Hundreds of strikes of thousands of workers demanded better, and now tens of thousands will see higher wages in the new year.
