🎉 Let's begin this week with celebration!
🚨Last week, we received the Innovative Project for Impact Award at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 for our AI-Assisted Coding of Multilingual Job Descriptions for Faster Employment Statistics.
➡️The AI-powered tool classifies job and economic activity descriptions in Kinyarwanda, English, and French, significantly speeding up the production of Labour Force Survey statistics and strengthening the efficiency of official statistics production.
The project, developed under the first cohort of the Data Science Capacity Building Initiative (#DSCBI), delivered in collaboration with @RwandaICT, @AIMS_Rwanda, @Mastercard, @cenfri_org, and @RISARwanda, is a testament to the visionary leadership of Government of #Rwanda and reflects NISR's commitment to harnessing artificial intelligence to strengthen the production of official statistics.

“For Africa, energy is not simply a development issue. It is the foundation of industrial growth, and competitiveness. At the centre of this endeavour, is the question of investment. Too often, investors hesitate because they perceive many risks in Africa. We must work to strengthen regulation, ensure consistency and accountability, in order to build confidence and attract long-term capital.” President Kagame | Opening of the 2nd Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa #NEISA2026

On their own, they seem small. Put together, they’re valuable.
Personal data is traded, analysed, and sometimes abused which is why it deserves the same care as anything of value.

@DavidNKUSI@statisticsRW In his address, the Minister of State at @RwandaICT, @yves_Iradukunda, congratulated the graduates, emphasizing that the program goes beyond technical skills, "but providing the leadership capabilities for the achievers to drive a culture change within institutions.”
#HappeningNow: the graduation of the first cohort of the Data Science Capacity Building Initiative (DSCBI).
41 professionals trained with essential data science skills to strengthen Rwanda’s National Statistical System are gowning up to celebrate their achievements.
With the conferring of certificates, 41 sector professionals were celebrated for their achievement, and the impact of the skills acquired is already being felt.
Our gratitude goes to all our strategic partners whose collaboration made the success of this program possible.
The Minister of State @RwandaICT Mr. @yves_Iradukunda congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply their newly acquired skills to drive institutional change.
He emphasized that, as #Rwanda advances toward a data-driven government and the adoption of emerging technologies, including #AI, it is essential to translate data expertise into practical service delivery.
As we mark the graduation of the 1st #DSCBI cohort, I commend our partners, @RwandaICT@RISARwanda, @cenfri_org@AIMS_Rwanda,
@MastercardFdn, whose collaboration made this initiative possible.
Together, we are building national data science capacity to support data-driven governance in #Rwanda.
Today at @UNGeneva, DG @ivanmurenzi participated in #Rwanda’s 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) as part of the official Rwandan delegation.
Led by the Hon. @eugirashebuja1, Minister of Justice, the delegation shared recent progress aimed at improving citizens’ well-being, including
➡️ Poverty declined from 58.9% in 2000 to 27.4% in 2024.
➡️ Access to improved sanitation increased from 86% in 2017 to 94% in 2024.
➡️ The percentage of women delivering in health facilities rose from 93% in 2020 to 98% in 2025.
➡️ life expectancy from 51.2 years in 2002 to 69.9 in 2022
➡️ …
DG Murenzi noted that over the years, information (data) has remained the foundation in terms of tracking progress in economic and social well-being and has been made a national priority.
