Last week, this post from @nysc360 trended for a week that sought advice for prospective Corp Members (PCMs). As a soon-to-be Corp Member, I noted some pieces of advice that ex-corpers shared, which include: - Prepare early: Get ready mentally, financially, physically, and spiritually 😂 - Create multiple email accounts (like Yahoo, gmail, outlook, etc.) to ensure faster access to your registration code on the day of registration - On registration day, go to the cyber cafe with food, water, a bed, and a mosquito net if needed. You’ll definitely need them 😂 - On the day before registration day, start monitoring the NYSC website from midnight and make sure to register and complete your biometrics as soon as the site goes online - Always be early for every process: arrive at camp early for registration, get to camp early for a quicker check-in, and choose an upper bunk (avoid bunk near windows and exit) - Before heading to camp, ensure you have enough money (Carry A LOT of MONEY😂) - Pack a small bag, don’t overpack. You can buy most essentials like buckets, razors, bath soap, etc., in Mami Market. Remember to bring sunglasses and a face mask. You’ll need them. - Don’t take too many clothes with you. You’ll mostly be in your NYSC uniforms. Bring only nightwear, Sunday clothes, and jeans (for the carnival) - If you have a preferred PPA, collect your acceptance letter from them before going to camp - Choose a PPA that won’t stress you out; don’t let them take advantage of you like you owe them. - When opening a bank account, avoid ACCESS BANK and UNITY BANK. E get why😂 - Take camp activities easy, don’t overstress yourself. There’s no reward for those who stress pass - Don’t isolate yourself in camp; make new friends and connect with people from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Be active, represent your platoon in different activities, join parades, take pictures, make memories, and have fun the best way you can - The importance of having money in camp cannot be overemphasized, so bring PLENTY OF MONEY - Avoid falling in love at camp; it won’t last and may hinder you from building genuine connections - Do not join the OBS, They hold meetings all the time which can overshadow your rest time - Once again, avoid opening accounts with ACCESS BANK and UNITY BANK even if they force you. Find a way to dodge those banks - If possible, skip SAE lectures - Carry MONEY oo. This cannot be stressed enough - If you find camp overwhelming, don’t hesitate to leave if necessary - If you must use a medical report to leave camp, ensure that whoever creates the report does it thoroughly and gives you a diagnosis you can defend.
