Today, we launched the Shelter Recovery Programme to focus the nation’s attention and give you, the citizen, the information you need to make the best decisions for yourself and your family.

Our relief efforts are now at a lower intensity because the people are ready for more than care packages. Many are telling us, “I don’t need more food packages, fix my roof. Give me zinc. Restore my home.”

The mindset has shifted. People want recovery.

Right now, we are moving into a high-intensity phase of recovery. Our focus is on relieving the discomfort of not having a roof over your head. Shelter is critical, and there are still many Jamaicans without one.

This programme represents about $10 billion in support. It is essential that everyone who qualifies understands it fully so they can get the maximum benefit. That is what my administration is committed to, making sure relief, recovery, and reconstruction reach those who need it most.
