Which is why hearing Chhap Tilak Sab Chheeni at his Ganpati celebrations was rather astonishing.

For the uninitiated, Amir Khusrau wrote it for Nizamuddin Auliya. The imagery is quite explicit: merely by meeting the Auliya’s gaze, one’s Chhap and tilak, sacred markers of Hindu identity, are taken away.

It is a celebration of Hindu identity disappearing before the Auliya. Or conversion of Hindus.

Very curious choice for Ganpati.

In 2022, a case came to light where a man named Amit was fired and his salary of the month was withheld by his managers for his refusal to wear Santa cap all day

Now, Allahabad High Court has said that such practices cannot be forced on people not following that religion

Amit worked at a store in a mall. He wore the cap for a customary picture to be sent to the centralised office on Christmas. But told his managers he wouldn't wear it all day as he is Hindu

After he was fired without salary and activists learnt about it, they protested outside the mall, called the police, and forced an FIR to be filed against the managers (both Hindus)

It's a rare case of this kind involving the Hindu community
