Look, cutting through it all, an end to Russia's war is still a long way off. There are no agreements on security guarantees, no western partner of Ukraine ready and willing right now to pledge anything strong enough to deter Russia. And Trump, who continued today to heap praise on Putin and initiated a call with him before meeting Zelensky, is unwilling to do the tough work that is necessary to press Russia to negotiate an end to its invasion in earnest. Trump wants an end to the war and he doesn't care how it happens. Putin has been very clear he wants to continue fighting. Ukraine, understandably, is unwilling to surrender and be subjugated to Moscow. So, where does this leave us? Far from peace and with a lot of work still to do.
Ukrainian Christmas traditions in the area around Bakhmut, Donetsk region, were documented in photographs as early as 120 years ago. For decades, this land has endured waves of oppression imposed by the Kremlin – yet local communities preserved the spirit across generations.
Moscow has long sought to erase Ukrainians: through artificial famines, repression, cultural bans, and genocide. After Russia’s invasion, countless people were driven from their homes, while cities and villages were reduced to rubble. What Moscow failed to destroy through policies of erasure, it now seeks to annihilate with missiles, drones, and artillery – as it did to Bakhmut and surrounding communities.
This war is genocidal in its intent. Russia is waging it against the very existence of Ukrainians – their culture, traditions, and right to live as Ukrainians on their own land.
To resist this war means not only to defend the present. It is to protect memory, heritage, and identity for future generations of Ukrainians to inherit.

Russia’s ambassador to the UK, Andrey Kelin: "There’s no “deal” to be had with Ukraine, only an agreement on its surrender"
Glad you bastards finally admit it: you never wanted peace-you wanted Ukraine, always.
Such was his abrasive way of operating, there will be few people mourning Andriy Yermak tonight. But his departure leaves a huge hole in the centre of Zelensky's political machine. He will struggle to fill it. My new piece.

Some in the coalition who pushed for Yermak’s ouster insisted to me they did so believing they were helping Zelensky. Allowing him to rediscover a better version of himself. But the drawn out, agonising process has damaged the president — perhaps critically.
How a bunch of Americans 🤑 can’t wait for Trump and Witkoff to let Moscow win so that inconveniently unconquered Ukraine doesn’t stand in their way of making 💰mega billions in Russia. https://t.co/ZD9PmpygYI
At least 25 people killed including 3 children during russia’s rocket attack on Western Ukrainian city #Ternopil - some 200 kilometers away from Polish border
Arrived in Türkiye as part of the delegation led by President @ZelenskyyUa. All scheduled meetings are taking place on time and in a productive working atmosphere.
I am in constant communication with representatives of President @POTUS’s administration, including U.S. Special Envoy @SteveWitkoff. Together with our American partners, we are working to end Russia’s war against Ukraine and secure a just and lasting peace.
Glory to Ukraine! 🇺🇦
Журналіст: Переговори Віткоффа та Єрмака в Туреччині скасовані через корупційний скандал

Everyone I have spoken to in Ukraine’s top offices and parliament as well as civil society says knives are out for Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s polarizing chief of staff and architect of his system of power. Great time to re-read my @FTMag cover story on him: https://t.co/hvlcJ3YjQD
The corruption scandal at Energoatom 🇺🇦 is very big. It’s not aid money that’s been stolen, but 🇺🇦 money - bad enough. The power of the anti-corruption bodies has been proved, but @ZelenskyyUa needs to take further action to restore credibility. https://t.co/yZjtIReiaW
