Presented my poster "Product Storability and Exchange Rate Pass-Through" at the 2026 JIE Summer School in Milan, 3 great days on geoeconomics, trade & climate change.
Thanks to @Bocconi University and @JIntEcon for curating a rich space for stimulating discussions!

🚨 New KITE analysis on the EU–India trade agreement
Some good news for a change. Our simulations suggest sizable trade effects from what has been called the “mother of all deals” — connecting 1/4 of global GDP and 1/5 of global population. Beyond aggregate gains, the agreement matters strategically: it helps both partners diversify upstream value chains and expand downstream market access in an increasingly uncertain global environment.

Write first, edit later.
The approach that’s working best for me: coding feels more like writing than I realized.
Step 1: Write code blocks in silos, as ideas arrive.
Step 2: Integrate them.
Step 3: Iterate—edit, refine, remove redundancies, and improve flow.

It was a honor and privilege to have chaired the 'Tariffs and Trade' session at last week's Geoeconomics conference @sciencespo!
We discussed tariffs and trading system but in a geopolitical setup.
@kielinstitute@cepr_org
Wrapped up Day 1 with a thought-provoking keynote by @krogoff and interesting talks discussing the implications of geoeconomics for trade flows, supply chains, and firms!
Bonjour de Paris! 🇫🇷 The 4th Kiel-CEPR Conference on Geoeconomics kicked off this morning with a great lineup — opening by @sciencespo President @lvassy, excellent academic sessions, and an overflowing room for @krogoff’s keynote! #Geoeconomics

Can economies continue to grow? #Economics@NobelPrize 2025.
If economies are a sum of transactions, it makes sense. Transactions happen for a reason, when you want something I have or vice versa.
That’s where technological progress and innovation come in.
Can we continue to grow?
That’s the question this year’s @NobelPrize winners in Economics tackle - specifically, how economies keep growing and how scientific and technological progress helps.

Why is autarky called autarky?
It comes from the Greek word autarkeia.
Autarkeia is derived from autarkēs.
And it means ‘self-sufficiency’ (autos = ‘self’ and arkein = ‘suffice’).
Well, that resolves it!

A subtly significant difference:
Economies of scope - when the scope of products expands by producing complementary or related goods.
Economies of scale - when the scale or volume of production of a single product increases.

After reading Irving Fisher’s A Brief Introduction to Infinitesimal Calculus, my foundations in the mathematics we use in economics became much stronger.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to build foundations in the subject.

As a steam engine enters a transition period (for some time) when going from low to high speed, so does the economy.
