Newspapers across the state are struggling. Journalists are seeing pay cuts and furloughs.
Many of you asked how you can help.
Here's how: https://t.co/i7foOqYfEV
We're upset to hear of more layoffs across @LeeEntNews' Virginia newspapers.
For those affected, we still have some relief funding available. Please spread the word and apply for aid cc: @RNPA_union; @TimeslandGuild; @BlRidgeGuild

We've been helping local Virginia journalists get the funds they need after @LeeEntNews furloughs, distributing over $2,000 this month alone.
Are you a Va. journalist who wants to help your peers? Drop us a line on how to get involved: [email protected]

The pattern of cuts and disinvestment in local journalism by Lee Enterprises must end. The unionized newspapers of @LeeEntNews call on Lee to invest in local communities and in its print, digital and customer services for its own survival. Our statement: https://t.co/EPhljzySHq
Until they do, we'll do what we can to help.
If you're a Virginia journalist who was laid off today or in recent months, please fill out this form. We still have funds to help you. You're the reason we're doing this.

Our colleagues are amazing.
They are smart, they are determined, and Virginia is better for the work they've done.
We wish our corporate owners would recognize that.
Virginia journalists have worked hard through the pandemic, through nearly impossible conditions.
They've watched their newsrooms disappear: https://t.co/X00oKVxVvD
When we started this fundraiser a little over a year ago, we knew that the cuts to Virginia newspapers were just starting.
Today, Lee Enterprises laid off nine people at the @roanoketimes — including one of our organizers. https://t.co/i7foOrfR3v
Thanks to @SinjeStadtlich and @DLFMedien for shining a spotlight on how the pandemic has harmed local news in the U.S., and about what we @va4journalists are doing to help journalists in Virginia make ends meet.
We're heartbroken to share that Lee Enterprises laid off two union members today, opting to pay them for two weeks instead of giving them notice. The cuts hurt and leave the Progress on life-support.
Our thoughts from July, when the company gutted our copy desk, still stand.
Five employees of the @RTDNEWS have been told they will be laid off, according to the paper's union.
We're here to help any affected journalists. Let us know how we can help: https://t.co/XIcrgsnd7N
We are saddened to report that Iowa-based Lee Enterprises told five valuable members of our bargaining unit they are being laid off. This move is bad for business and worse for readers of The Times-Dispatch who rely on us for strong local news.
This comes as 10 @roanoketimes employees are slated to lose their jobs on Oct. 23 as Lee moves design work to a centralized hub hundreds of miles from Virginia. https://t.co/A4lYT2J3Qh
After months of diligent planning, extensive outreach and many, many emotions spent, we are disappointed to say that @LeeEntNews has rejected our plan to establish a design hub in Roanoke. On Oct. 23, 10 of our members will lose their jobs.
