जिस समय भारत अनेक रूढ़ियों से ग्रस्त था और हमारे धर्म व संस्कृति को निरंतर आघात पहुँचाया जा रहा था, तब उन्होंने समाज को सत्य का दर्शन कराने के लिए अद्वैत वेदांत का मार्ग प्रशस्त किया। सनातन धर्म की ध्वज-पताका को पूरे देश में पुनः लहराने, संस्कृति को अक्षुण्ण रखने और राष्ट्र को एकता के सूत्र में पिरोने के लिए उन्होंने भारत-भ्रमण किया और चार दिशाओं में चार मठ स्थापित किए। अल्पायु में ही वेदों और शास्त्रों के गूढ़ रहस्यों को आत्मसात कर उन्होंने उपनिषदों पर ऐसे सरल और स्पष्ट भाष्य रचे, जिन्होंने समाज को पुनः वैदिक ज्ञान के पथ पर अग्रसर किया।

आदि शंकराचार्य जी के ज्ञान और परिश्रम से ही हमारी संस्कृति पुनः पुष्पित और पल्लवित हुई। आदिशंकर को कोटि-कोटि वंदन।

I took this photo of the commemorative stone during a visit in 2013.

It has a simple, chilling inscription: “People were fired at from here.”

In our minds, we must inscribe another line:
“Those who died are remembered through our resolve.”

Jallianwala Bagh should never be forgotten because it reminds us that the only response to cruelty is courage.
