Historically one of Europe's biggest strengths has been its diversity and decentralized thinking. Learning from others, seeing what works and what doesn't. The EU undermines this strength, but it's still there for now.
"The European growth model is not dead. Parts of Europe—in its east, centre and north—have demonstrated that it can work remarkably well. Our task is to understand what has worked, what has not, and apply those lessons across the continent."
@BeastmodeBox@dr_duchesne In poorer countries sports may be a door to economic advancement, but if many are already struggling with feeding their families there's little time for "playing", much less reaching a professional level. That's why the OP's comparison is not reasonable.
@BeastmodeBox@dr_duchesne yeah, that's due to the other factors I mentioned, of which the economic vitality of a country is a key factor. Building and promoting talent needs money.
@BeastmodeBox@dr_duchesne This. Players with African origins are very overrepresented in football (compared to their share of the total population of the nations they play for) since competition is the primary factor determining outcomes (team composition).
Madness - but in our fiat money + big welfare state economies taxing unrealized gains is the logical next step if there isn't enough real substance anymore: https://t.co/l2ETsml2BG
@so_uri @endH1BOPT @maiamindel And yes, I know these countries. I'm partly of South Tyrolean ancestry. And I can assure you: A German-speaking South Tyrolean feels closer to the German-speaking sphere than to the rest of Italy! And the same goes for a German-speaking Swiss.
@so_uri @endH1BOPT @maiamindel Sure, Austrians have a distinct group identity, but so do Bavarians, Hessians and Saxons. All of them share a common ethnicity and culture. The best indicator for ethnicity is language after all, at least in the "Old World".
@RCCoulombe the very popular song (quasi unofficial national anthem) "I am from Austria" by Rainhard Fendrich opens with that kind of feeling:
"Dei hohe Zeit is lang vorüber
Und a die Höh' hast hinter dir
Von Ruhm und Glanz is wenig über
Sag ma wer ziagt no den Huat vur dia
Ausser mir"
@RCCoulombe all countries have their own way to deal with their past. Here in Austria people live within the remnants of the empires' glorious past, seemingly unaffected by the beauty and history surrounding them. But deep within many Austrians yearn for these times long gone.

@Coach_Milly_ no, those are integrated processes within every bank. Not every loan is discussed on a standalone basis, but the aggregate growth of the loan book is discussed between treasury/asset liability management, business units, risk dep and others (bilateral or in various committees).
