Bruno Fernandes, Mateus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško all have world class quality. They can win a game for you in any moment. Mbeumo and Šeško are only going to get better, too. Remember, they are young. Cunha still yet to peak as well. Amad a perfect complementary profile because he holds the width but also play inside and does the dirty work defensively whilst possessing top quality as well. Mount an excellent alternative to Bruno Fernandes. Highly underrated player. Has top quality. Hopefully he can stay fit. Rashford being a direct back-up for Cunha is logical because both are similar in the sense that they don’t work unbelievably hard defensively but each of them have game-breaking offensive quality. Dorgu a very dangerous runner in behind. Wildcard profile. Not the most aesthetic but very effective with space to run into. Every time he plays he gets into good areas. That’s a great trait for an attacking player. Not being confined to wingback has helped him a lot. Elsewhere, an argument can be made that United need a left back (Lewis Hall is top) more than they need another forward IF Dorgu plays higher and Rashford leaves. Need a physical metronome in midfield, too. Ideally a range-y profile. #6/#8 type as opposed to being overly #6 (not dynamic enough) or overly #8 (more technical than physical). Think Bruno G or Declan Rice. Maybe United should enquire about Mikel Merino on the cheap. No harm in asking. Also lacking mobility at centre half if either Maguire or Martinez play, but the problem is there doesn’t seem to be a standout centre back profile in the market. Chelsea signed Lacroix for big money which pretty much sums up the state of the market in that sense. That level of player wouldn’t have moved the needle enough for United, so I would understand if the club remained patient in this position. Hopefully De Ligt can get fit, Yoro can kick on, and Heaven continues to develop. Still 5 top centre halves there. It’s only possible to upgrade with elite quality. If that isn’t available, then being patient is smart. Interesting times, but the thing about analysing United is that it doesn’t require as much depth as more tactically reliant teams. Their main asset is their culture, their elite quality, and tactical balance only comes AFTER those two traits. Michael Carrick may not be Pep Guardiola, but he doesn’t need to be to win major titles. Just look at Liverpool under Arne Slot in 24/25. Good balance in every phase is all United need and that’s exactly what Carrick gives them. Polish the squad off, get a bit of luck with injuries, and they can compete for the Premier League title next season. Arsenal are imperfect in attack, City are an unknown quantity under Maresca, Liverpool’s squad is miles off it right now. Chelsea are outside shouts too, but there is a lot of unknown variables with them right now. Their culture was rotten last season and that’s not something that can be eradicated over night. All of that screams imperfection for United to capitalise on. Let’s see how it plays out ✌️
