Relying on victims being "brave" and speaking out is no way of keeping the work environment healthy and safe from bullies. I've seen abuse - we've all seen it - because it is everywhere. It is that horrible part of the job.

My somewhat cynical take on bullies in academia is that they’re a feature, not a bug. I touched on this with an earlier tweet, but the qualities we commonly associate with “top scientist” in academia are extremely present in the kinds of people who bully others.

I’m weirdly proud of this one because it was the first project of my PhD and I spent so long working on it to make it perfect. I guess this is one of those special moments during the PhD where you feel like you’re actually doing something.
