Depression comes in waves, sometimes quiet, gentle - other times monstrous, tidal. High functioning on the surface, but crashing underneath. It's lonely. It's laughter in a room full of people. It's overwhelming. It's numb. It's wanting to be ok. It's hopelessness.
Depression is chemical. It's real. It's serious. And there is NO SHAME in seeking help - therapy, medication, community. Seeking help is bravery, quiet strength and choosing yourself. You deserve to choose yourself.
Depression isn't just a mood. You can't self-care and positive think it away. You can't always be strong enough to weather the waves. And acknowledging that fact is mental toughness. It's not a weakness. It's not a cause for ridicule.
It's guilt. What do I have to be sad for? Why am I not grateful to be alive? Why can't I just try harder, do better, be better? Why am I never enough? Do I even deserve to be here?
It's feeling like nothing will ever change not matter what you do, like your soul is being crushed, like the weight on your chest will never lift. You'll always feel this way.
