David Eby’s cynical snap election was totally unnecessary.
What is necessary is the need for a change of government in BC.
Record deficits, fleeing investment capital, credit downgrade after downgrade.
It’s time for BC to elect a serious government committed to fiscal responsibility.
Time to buy some Canadian-imported products here at my local store in Nuuk, Greenland 🇬🇱 and support our neighbours in Canada. 🇨🇦🤝🇬🇱
As you can see, the store is even promoting its Canadian products.
Just a small gesture of support for our Canadian friends and neighbours. 🇨🇦
THIS IS SOMETHING VANCOUVER CITY HALL CAN ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT.
Ian is an American from Oregon, who has been living on Vancouver's streets a few years. he has been living most of the days on the corner of granviell and smith. I have been talking with him for 2 years!
He tells me he desperately wants to get home but has virtually no income and tries to raise money by reciting Tony Robbins quotes for spare change.
Provincial policies control much of how homelessness, addiction and mental health are handled in this city—but that doesn't mean City Hall is powerless.
Mayor Ken Sim and Council could put together a serious street-level outreach team—people like me who actually know how to approach people, earn their trust, collect information and identify what they need.
Housing? Mental-health treatment? ID? Income assistance? Recovery? Transportation home? Family reunification?
GO FIND OUT.
Then take that information directly to Council and the Province and start fighting for solutions PERSON BY PERSON.
Leaving someone on the same street corner for YEARS isn't a strategy.
Governments spend billions responding to homelessness, addiction and mental health.
GET OUT OF THE OFFICES.
GET ON THE STREETS.
TALK TO PEOPLE.
Ian isn't the failure.
THE SYSTEM AROUND HIM IS.
Im about to drop a long form YouTube video of how one building in the DTES is connected to 5.8 billion dollars in Grifting government grants that from my view support people in getting work to take care of organizations that hire non Canadians to watch over our most vulnerable.
@saveourcityvan@KenSimCIty@vote4abc@KashHeed@SalonOrigins@KerryLynneFindl@lorrainelowe@somerspsych@MikeKlassen
@RobShaw_BC@VaughnPalmer@BCConservCaucus@PeterMilobar This province is spiralling out of control and we just sit back and watch. Wake up people, next time you vote think about the mess these clowns have created, will take decades to unwind.
British Columbia is on fire not because of climate change but because the NDP government didn’t invest in wildfire prevention. This apocalyptic Summer is the result of chronic mismanagement. not an act of God.
Drowning can happen quickly and silently, even to strong swimmers. 🛟 During National Drowning Prevention Week, take a minute to watch this video with key paddleboarding safety tips.
American tourists visiting Vancouver for the FIFA World Cup praised the stadium, the food and the people but said the one thing that will stick with them the most was something nobody warned them about.
After booking a cheap Airbnb in Chinatown steps from BC Place they described what they saw as “like World War Z with zombies walking all over the place” with open fentanyl use, people shooting up with needles and even came across someone outside a coffee shop they had to check for a pulse 😳
“The government does absolutely nothing about it”
Is this the lasting impression Vancouver wants to leave on the world stage? 🤔💭
BREAKING
The Parliamentary Budget Officer has revealed that nearly 74,000 REJECTED asylum claimants are entitled to deluxe health benefits through the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP).
Deluxe supplemental health benefits like vision care, home care, and physiotherapy now account for more than half of all IFHP costs.
These are benefits that Canadians who have paid into the system their entire lives can’t access.
Counselling costs have grown from less than 1% of supplementary spending in 2016 to 11% in 2025.
Last year alone, taxpayers paid $38.79 million for counselling and $12.41 million for home visits for asylum seekers under the program.
This damning information comes at a time when six million Canadians can’t access the basic service of a family doctor.
The PBO also revealed the average length of IFHP coverage for asylum claimants is now a staggering four years.
It is undeniable that as the backlog grows, rejected asylum claimants continue adding pressure to a health care system where Canadians are already facing long wait times for care.
The Liberals must explain to Canadians why asylum seekers whose refugee claims were rejected, face enforceable removal orders, and in some cases fail to appear for removal, continue to receive deluxe, taxpayer-funded health benefits while they avoid leaving Canada.
We need to stop calling these 'accidents.' This was a choice. She traded everything for a 3 second notification. Reality doesn’t care about your excuses.
@CanucksArmy WORST ownership is the reason this team is where it is today. Behind every successful franchise is solid ownership. Aqualini's own the team for one reason, real estate, that's it plain and simple.
**MEGAPOST**
The Canucks drafting and trading for a great group of players and developing none of them into leaders except the guy they traded first (Horvat) is hilarious.
EP40 - Introvert, acknowledges he isn't vocal, not a leader
JT Miller - Prickly, had multiple issues with different players in Vancouver, leads NYR to a bottom 5 pick, not a leader
Quinn Hughes - Articulate, but not a leader in the community or and didn't do enough in the locker room, not a leader.
Filip Hronek - The most prickly with media, vocal, but he was already a finished product more or less in Detroit
Thatcher Demko - Prickly with Fans and Media at times, wants to be here, according to Kevin Woodley, not a leader
Brock Boeser - Most in touch with the fanbase right now, elevates his game in late season + playoff games more than anyone else currently on the team, but his play disappears for long stretches and becomes invisible, not a leader
Bo Horvat - Good with the media, wasn't the most physically involved in scrums but was almost always in touch with the Canucks fanbase, and elevated himself in the clutch. The last captain to play with Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
It's almost like in order to create new leaders, you need to have an organization full of great leaders to show the young guys the ropes!
Canucks leadership at ownership and management have done the following since the Sedins left:
- Let Edler & Tanev go in b2b offseasons (players who became leaders under the Sedins)
- Laid off 25% of business staff in July 2020, and went from 200 to 45 full time business staff by November 2020
- Reduced Employee Wages 3 times in 3 months to the point where most employees were only being paid 65% of their initial salary and had to utilize the Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy
- Let important pieces walk and replaced them with budget pieces (Tanev and Toffoli leaving for $8.75M combined and replacing them with Virtanen, Holtby, Poolman, all of whom were bought out or put on LTIR)
- Fired Green and Benning (needed at the time) and replaced them with Boudreau and Jim Rutherford without conducting a formal search, and didn't even tell JR about Boudreau's contract.
- Let JR run a half assed GM search where he hired his Pittsburgh buddy
- Treated Boudreau like garbage, publicly, fired him
- Told Horvat they were going to re-sign him, pivoted to Miller, and then traded Horvat, even though Miller was the problem at that point in time
- Extended Elias Pettersson against the coach's wishes, traded away his best linemate, had him play through knee tendonitis, lied about the injury, and then told Miller and Hughes to toughen him up (I think the contract at the time was fine, even if his production since has been abhorrent), furthering locker room dissension.
- Failed to retain Rick Tocchet, who despite being disliked by Canucks fans was valuable enough to Rutherford to treat Boudreau like dirt
- Hired Adam Foote to try and keep Hughes, and is clearly out of his element, but are (as of now) unwilling to move off of that mistake
- Are going to hire another rookie GM without doing a full on search, because JR wants to keep a lot of control
That doesn't even include all of the staff that have arrived and left rather quickly, some suddenly (Derek Clancey, Rachel Dorrie/Kryshak), the horrible medical staff, having 4 head coaches, 12 assistant coaches, their inability to develop highly skilled prospects, and lack of practice facilities
All of that, and they've increased season ticket prices by ~ 44% since 2022-23.
Leadership starts at the top with Ownership.
Bad ownership has hired bad presidents in both the business and hockey ops departments, and they hire puppet underlings, treat their subordinates like garbage, use them as fall guys, and that creates apathy and anxiety in employees, which trickles down into the workplace, locker room, and the fanbase as a whole.
Francesco Aquilini,
Sell. The. Team.
@LWillson_82@PeterDyakowski How about they forget about taking over the feed, selling boring Cnd gambling ads and forcing Canada to watch it!! Let people watch the American game on an American channel. Fan of both leagues but not a fan of how we have no choice when it comes to Super Bowl.
