Hi chess friends! Having to take a break from chess things for a while bc my PhD isn’t going well 😅 You can find me tweeting more often at @vanessainstem in the meantime 😊
This is literally the best chess news I’ve ever gotten (i haven’t been on here forever but logged on just to tweet about this). My chess OTP fr 😭❤️❤️❤️
I’m thrilled to share a special life update -- I recently married the amazing @irene_sukandar
We kept our relationship mostly private until now, but we’re happy to share this milestone publicly. Thank you for supporting our journeys, both on and off the chessboard. Here’s to the beginning of a beautiful chapter ❤️
I am fighting back against campaigns to silence me and retaliate against me for speaking up about sexual violence in chess.
I have fought many battles on the chess board and the poker table. This is the most important one.
just sold my set of Botez sisters chess pieces and of course the man I was selling it to couldn’t find me because, as he said, “I thought you were a guy” 🤪
Story 2: 🧵 I have two older brothers and so have always been friends with lots of boys all my life.
I have been told that it’s this reason that I “got what was coming to me”, because I was “one of the lads”.
Just because I trusted them, it does not mean they should misuse it.
FIDE clearly thinks that words speak louder than action...
Nigel Short is having the biggest laugh of his life. Alejandro Ramirez, Timur Gareyev, and others are still free to play as many FIDE tournaments as they please.
Everyone at FIDE should be ashamed, but they don't care
Grandmasters who have committed sexual assaults continue to play chess all over the world, while their victims quit the game they love
FIDE and most national federations will do nothing unless they are forced to. This is why we need public pressure
Speaking out is the only way
