Since we’ve gotten to hs, every English teacher I’ve had has made us read this. While it’s good ig, I wouldn’t want to hear it at my own graduation bc it’s a bit depressing. Sure there’s a point to it all & it’s about real life, but maybe tone it down a bit hamlet #laylit20
@litwithlayton Doing things for others tends to make us feel better about ourselves. So in this, by saving someone, you would also be saving yourself. Each helping hand we give takes us further from the precipice #laylit20
@ShahTisya I think it also shows how quickly people can change, even w/o euphio or anything. One minute they can be chill and the next all hell is breaking loose for whatever reason. Kinda scary if you think about it #laylit20
@Nanditaa_K If u only think logically, u become capable of tremendous cruelty. There are things that can be done to guarantee victory but should not be done to anyone. A balance of logic & emotion is needed in order for ppl to stay sane & human instead of j destructive machinery #laylit20
@LKoncsol Barzov seems really stupid. He acts like he’s a genius and incredible player and yet he misses a pretty obvious strategy and was going to allow “take backs”. It doesn’t really make sense to me #laylit20
@LKoncsol It’s because they thought sex was immoral to start with. Yeah they needed to decrease population and no sex would certainly do that, but they also j felt sex was terrible to start with so might as well keep everyone “pure and noble” in the process #laylit20
@sarahliucifer I think it probably has to do w the stress of last minute gifts or seeing people you don’t want to or just having to be everywhere at once. In a darker way, they might choose this path as a gift to someone else #laylit20
@sydnopsis I feel like she doesn’t want to dwell on it or else she’ll be caught up in it and realize she might not be happy after all. This is a way of reassuring herself by glossing it all over #laylit20
@EshaSinha4 It almost reminds me of nursery rhymes where they’re going off into a magical forest or smth. They essentially disappear into this dream world where they have no obligations, commitments, or consequences #laylit20
@LKoncsol Tbh, I have a feeling these people “disappear”. U can’t fix everything & fixing people isn’t their concern. They established a base line for everything, like intelligence w hazel, if ur under that, there’s not much they can do for u & as we saw, better dead than unequal #laylit20
Even tho their goal was to make people equal, they didn’t really do that at all because you could tell who was better by their handicaps. Sure, you wouldn’t want to be them, but you can tell they’re beautiful or strong based on their mask or weights. They kinda failed #laylit20
@sydnopsis Tbh, I thought he’d told her there was a case against her, I didn’t expect the news to b Adam’s death. So I was a lil repulsed that her playing was so enhanced but knowing what it actually was, its so sad & it makes sense that she would play like she was running from it #laylit20
@litwithlayton Running from your problems is not the solution. Neither is cutting people out or being so rigidly inflexible. Life is about change and growth but if you refuse to see that, it will leave you behind #laylit20
@sarahliucifer I think her defense mechanism is to cut ppl out completely. She does it to the both of them & I’m sure many others in her life. She doesn’t want to get hurt/hurt someone else but in the process does both of those things. It’s a v unhealthy attempt at a coping mechanism #laylit20
@litwithlayton I think it’s to emphasize the toll that the profession has on those who practice it. It’s super complicated and much of it is based on twisting the same few facts around and around. It’s draining and I think this is supposed to show it nice and concisely #laylit20
@litwithlayton Absolutely. Even if people don’t recognize religion or such, everyone believes in smth, even if it’s j someone they idolize or the prospect of future success. We all need smth to keep us going & even though every person’s way is different, they’re all important #laylit20
@litwithlayton That was really disturbing to be honest. I understand that how it happened wasn’t Fiona’s intention, but it was still very uncomfortable to read, especially since mcewan notes that she didn’t pull away or try to stop it immediately #laylit20
Fiona doesn’t write to Adam bc his social worker says he’s doing ok. Do you think this is so he doesn’t become dependent on her and can move on in his life? I’m j curious why she wouldn’t want to check in at least once, although I suppose it’s j professional not to #laylit20
@sarahliucifer And yet British ppl are still appalled by Americans for not always using a kettle for tea smh, they need their priorities straightened #laylit20
@sarahliucifer I think it’s a bit creepy, yes, but I don't think so much romantic. I j think he’s had v little social interaction outside of his sect and doesn’t quite know how to talk to ppl. He’s enthusiastic and is trying his best to adapt to a new world #laylit20
