@dhh 15 year Arch user, recently forcedto switch my work box to Ubuntu. I have a whole set of makefiles which install and configure my environment (Sway, NeoVim, etc..). I don't notice if I am on one of my Arch or Ubuntu boxes.
Should someone like me I try Omarchy and if so, why?
@mischavdburg I agree. I used arch exclusively for the last 15 years and was ricing before I even knew it was called ricing. Now I don't care at all what distro I am on.
@farman4x y = 49 ... ahhh... I have been suckered into doing math again..
12 + 9 = 21
21 / 3 = 7
7 * 7 = 49...
Why can't I just scroll past these 8th grade math questions!?
@farman4x 98 ... but I feel like this is mid. The pattern is the product of one of the top two numbers and the sum of those numbers. 3(3+3) = 18, 4(4+4) = 32, and 7(7+7) = 98
I wish these were more difficult and not just farming for responses. I guess I am part of the problem.
I agree that simple solutions aren't necessarily short term hacks.
I do realize I am in the minority on this.
I feel that "simple" is a cop out / catch phrase used to avoid the responsibility that comes with taking an opinionated stance. It's like the not-a-stance stance. The problem worsens when many people start contributing to the code base. All of the small simple changes made over time are great to review in their own context but they coalesce into incoherence when you look at the whole.
The solution is never going to be ideal and we're always going to have to change things. I would just rather have something opinionated which coaxes contributors into consistent patterns than just slopping stuff in which "checks the box" until the right pattern magically arises.
@danielkleach I say this ... but the last big thing I shipped was a "we'll fix it later" ... which really became ... "transition this project to another team who may fix it later ... but maybe not."
Will fix later. I have been thinking about this recently and my gut says that at least with over engineering it is clear what the intention was, even if it is wrong, and when a rewrite is needed an honest discussion can be had about it. Duct tapped slop just ends up with more slop and duct tape.
Very cool idea. It reminds me of the laser mechanisms in Portal. My suggestions, 1) Make this 3D, 2) Don't limit yourself to just light - do fluids as well. Also, physical objects sliding. Ramps? 3) Come up with a good reason why these puzzles need to be solved. We're in need of a good puzzle game.
