Nitro ones are more polar, have higher resultant dipole moment. Thus exhibited more ordered Sm phases, even in the case of lower homologs.

exhibited enantiotropic mesomorphism. Lower homologs (e.g. 1-5 to 1-8 & A5) only showed
nematic phases, but higher homologs exhibited smectic phases (SmA, SmX), and intermediate
