And like that, we’re done! Another great UKETS event with over 50 trainees now off on their endovascular careers. Well done to all participants, but a HUGE thanks to the faculty and sponsors who make this possible. See you all next year!
And finally, we had a very special surprise for our two @NUFC fans Akbar and Craig…..a huge thank you to @alanshearer for signing these shirts - as you can see they were both over the moon! #GeordieHospital
Craig and his team carefully remove the plaque from the artery – which will hopefully reduce her risk of a further stroke. Craig won’t know if Samantha has had another stroke until she wakes up. #GeordieHospital
An hour into surgery – Craig needs to remove the blockage in Samantha’s artery but there’s a risk of causing another stroke. He has navigated around the nerve controlling her tongue & his team now need to repair the diseased artery. #GeordieHospital
It’s time for Michael’s surgery & like Craig – Akbar’s theatre scrubs are just like @alanshearer putting on his no9 shirt – no name on the back this time! This complex procedure could hopefully improve Michael’s quality of life. #GeordieHospital
This surgery is high risk & leaves no margin for error. Craig is about 2mm away from the nerve that controls Samantha’s ability to swallow or speak. “My sole purpose is to not even touch the nerve or if we’re lucky not even encounter it.” #GeordieHospital
Samantha has recovered from her stroke surgery and is on a mission to lower her cholesterol. The DBS surgery has reduced Michael’s tremor and he’s now able to use a knife and fork and baby Grayson is already a big @NUFC fan! #GeordieHospital

Endovascular surgeon Craig Nesbitt prepares for a long day & brings in cakes for the theatre team. "It's a small thing but let's people know they're valued, though the theatre staff will tell you I'm trying to soften them up - my list has been known to run late a couple of times"
Tonight’s episode of #GeordieHospital follows Seb’s heart surgery. Celebrating everything that is good about our NHS; specifically the phenomenally humble - Mr Hasan & the simply fabulous Lisa. Along with their amazing team, we owe them everything! 🙏♥️🌈

Craig’s first patient, 93-year-old Dick, is in for surgery to clear a blocked artery in his leg, which has caused gangrene in his foot. Craig describes himself as a plumber & today’s procedure is about unblocking the pipes, to return blood flow to the foot #GeordieHospital
It's the start of another shift at #GeordieHospital. Taking the energetic route to work, is endovascular surgeon Craig. Being a Geordie, Craig was convinced he was going to be a footballer. Although 'obsessed' with the idea, Craig swapped his football kit for a set of greens.
Over in theatre 9, Craig is an hour into surgery to clear a blocked artery in Dick’s thigh. Having removed the blockage, the blood supply will now be released back into the leg. For the operation to be a success, it must run freely through the artery. #GeordieHospital
