@chrisaikenmd I did research on depression symptom factors and ketamine, I always felt that ketamine may improve psychotherapy for those with depression, if humans are getting similar increased prefrontal arborization seen in mice models.
There are real endocrine effects (and they are often NOT good) of lavender, tea tree oil & evening primrose oil, on females and males both. Discussed in detail (exposure frequency, scents vs oils etc.) w/@ncrawfordmd on the latest Huberman Lab podcast: https://t.co/BgFpjDBTj9
Congrats on Kawana-san and the team! What a cool story about Pancreas-Brain crosstalk through peripheral nerve opto-stimulation. Thank you for including us in the study!
Some have asked me how to detect BS in published papers. Hard to answer, as a BS detector takes a long time to develop. But it's more important (and more difficult) to develop the ability to detect good work. like trying to find something valuable in a flea market.
@HenryYin19 I’ve just assigned my students in Critical Thinking just this.
Detect errors in logic, statistics, and nonsense in general in published work. They are far from experts (as am I) but I feel they are getting a lot out of essay.
Mentors, teachers, whoever need to train students what to ask for and how to ask for it. This should’ve been discussed prior to grad students helping on the paper.
Still, should aim to be generous with authorship if people contributed. The impact can be huge.

“A PhD student took help of three graduate students (including me) during her PhD project. It included help with simulations, preparation of experiment, data collection and data analysis. At the end of analysis, the graduate students got busy and could not help further. The PhD student then published a paper around a year later without listing the graduate students as authors. Was it correct? How do I respond? It has been over an year this incident has happened.”

@EvaLefkowitz@yetunrefined@AcademicChatter It seems like an obvious skill to those who know it, but it isn’t always intuitive to those who haven’t been exposed to professional correspondence before.
@yetunrefined@EvaLefkowitz@AcademicChatter This is something I covered in the class I teach, how to send professional emails and correspond with people professionally.
Most of my students expressed gratitude for it!
New challenge to #ketamine 's benefits. Stanford MDs gave the drug to depressed patients while they were unconscious and undergoing surgery

Ketamine was no different than a saline placebo, and both gave a big boost to depression, raising questions...
@chrisaikenmd@CarlatPsych Interesting! Set and setting may be an important contributor to ketamine’s therapeutic effects, something that would be impossible while under anesthesia.
@aidangcw The GRE should be a tool to allow opportunity, not take away opportunity.
I can imagine too many instances of the GRE helping people that otherwise don’t have access get into graduate school.
@Mustang_Scott@DrMcFillin The one I worked at had an exercise room, some gym equipment and treadmills for inpatients. Though how often it was used, or open for use, I’m unsure.
